Greetings from the Secretariat of The International Association of Meteorological Education and Sciences (IAMES) and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST).

Environmental pollution and meteorological disasters have become common challenges faced by mankind. IAMES was established in December 2020, which was initiated by NUIST and supported by more than 30 colleges, universities and scientific research institutions from over 20 countries. Prof. Petteri Taalas, Secretary-General of the WMO expressed his congratulations on the establishment of IAMES via video. Focusing on meteorology (atmospheric science, hydrology, environmental science and other meteorology related disciplines), IAMES is an international organization which hopes to stimulate meteorological education and research, promote scientific and technological innovation, share high-quality platform resources, provide government policy consultation, and enhance the coordination ability to respond to major scientific issue. IAMES has organized some activities, such as Science Forum, 2021 “AI Earth” Artificial Intelligence Innovation Challenge and 1^st IAMES Conference2021 since its establishment. In order to make further achievements, IAMES is now looking for new members.

The activities of IAMES include:

(1) to encourage international collaboration and leadership in meteorological education and science by holding meetings;

(2) to develop meteorological education and training by sharing and discovering learning events, resources, and experience;

(1) to cultivate interdisciplinary talents through joint international programs among members;  

(2) to solve crucial scientific issues like climate change, hydro-meteorological disasters, and environmental degradation by supporting joint scientific research and setting up international cooperation platforms;

(3) to strengthen weather and climate service capacities such as climate adaptation, disaster mitigation and sustainable development by industrialization of research findings.

"Warmer or colder we stand together". Let’s forge ahead in building a meteorological education and sciences community. We call on all members to pursue innovative, coordinated and green development. Together we can preserve the environment and make Mother Earth a better place.
